Working Groups
At USG we have recognised that as a Team each of us will have passions to drive the ministry in different areas. These have been recognised in a variety of ways so that Leaders can serve practically where they are particularly gifted, and hold a particular skill-set or passion.
The working groups are areas where we believe we can improve the wider running of Urban Saints Guildford. Below is a bit about each of them:
The Hall
How can we best use our current space (the hall at the end of Stoke Park)? This may involve bit-by-bit refurbishments to bring life back into the building but also longer-term plans for how we can use the space to reach further into our community. We want the hall to be more than just a place where we meet on a Friday, we want it to be a hub for our community.
Outreach
Explore further how we reach all lads in Guildford - both churched & unchurched. Reaching new schools for Fluffy Friday and thinking about what the youth of today need from us at USG. Our events are a perfect opportunity for lads to invite their friends to USG but we know we can do more than that.
Culture
Making it a personal responsibility to prioritise Prayer Meetings as a leadership team - ensuring we continue to pass the baton on and develop and grow the culture we have at USG. Holding each other accountable, both as Urban Saints and in our walks with Jesus. Creating a plan for social activities for leaders to hang out as a leadership team. We want to do more to continue building close friendships as a leadership team.
Shake Things Up (Activities / Events)
This group aims to keep events & activities fresh and new. We create a plan to ensure events/activities are run well and ensure we have the leaders throughout the year to put quality time into planning and coordinating big events and camps. We also think about what things keep new and old lads coming along. We allow ourselves time to be creative and allocate responsibilities and that we are collating resources for future leaders to feed from.
New Leaders (inc. Onboarding)
We think about how new leaders are welcomed, and how we bring them up to speed both culturally and process-wise. We look at how new leaders feel starting, and ensure we empower our leaders to recruit. We put a lot of time into our Y13’s, providing them with the opportunities to lead in the Juniors where they can learn about running games, delivering talks, being role models for the younger lads as well as what it means to be part of the wider USG community. We are securing their future at USG & developing their leadership skills; a bridge from School to Uni & student leadership.
